Members of HOPE Bank
2009
The women of HOPE Bank come from two different tribes, one being the Masai, and the other being Kikuyu. The Masai are a semi-nomadic tribe while the Kikuyu rely heavily on agriculture and lead a more sedentary lifestyle. The Kikuyu make up Kenya's largest ethnic group, and it is believed that this tribe originated from Western Africa. Originally the Masai and Kikuyu had many of the same beliefs one being the belief in a creator god they call "Ngai" who is believed to live at the top of Mount Kenya, but over time many Kikuyu have converted to Christianity and have moved into city centers taking on jobs in business and finance.
It is truly a beautiful thing to know that these two tribes are working together, and learning from each other, and are acting as a microcosm of what is possible when people come together, rooted in a common purpose.
